In 1992, the forest of Singalila bought by the British government from the Kingdom of Sikkim was converted into a national park which now hosts exotic species of Himalayan flora and fauna. Singalila National Park is located on Singalila Ridge in the Eastern Himalayan region. Sandakphu and Phalut, the two of the highest peaks in West Bengal, are located right inside the park. There are two rivers flowing through the park; River Rammam and River Sirikhola.
A permit is required by both domestic and international travellers to visit the national park which is easily available. The best seasons to visit Singalila National Park are the Spring season (March to May) when the spring is at its full bloom with flora and fauna all around and the Autumn-Winter season (October to December) when peaks are covered in white snow and clear blue sky behind them.
