Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, popularly known as the Darjeeling Zoo is the only zoo in India that runs a conservation-breeding program for endangered animals of the Eastern Himalayas and has won several awards for working to protect red pandas, snow leopards, and Tibetan wolves.
If visiting Darjeeling and you are an animal lover then a visit to this zoo must be made. In 1975 when former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi visited the zoo, then she renamed it to its current name to pay tribute to Padmaja Naidu, an Indian freedom fighter.
